Golf on Tour

It's Major week

This weekend's U.S. Open will feature plenty of familiar faces with the likes of Dustin Johnson, Tiger Woods and new-father Rory McIlroy all teeing it up in New York.

Given the dominance of these players in recent years, it might be foolish to look past them when considering who might be crowned champion, but that’s exactly what we’re going to do.

Webb Simpson is certainly worth a look in our eyes. A couple of wins and regular top-10 finishes in the just-finished season means confidence will be sky-high. Speaking of confidence, Collin Morikawa won the PGA Championship in just his second Major start and looks like he’s just warming up.

Will fatherhood have Rory firing or tiring? Can DJ get over the line at another Major? Or is it time for somebody else to take centre-stage at Winged Foot GC? We can't wait to find out!

Adaptation is key

As the seasons change, so does golf. We need to adapt the way we are playing depending on the weather conditions, particularly our decision-making. So, how should we adapt for wet ground?

One big difference in wet conditions comes around the greens. We will see less bounce and less roll when playing on wet turf, meaning the ball stops more abruptly. This is something that needs to be considered with any shots around the green.

A bump-and-run will not roll as far, so you'll need to either carry the ball slightly further or use a different club. If you opt for a high-lofted chip, you'll again need to land the ball closer to the hole - just make sure you commit to the shot at hand!

Henrik Stenson and his trusty 3-wood became one of the deadliest duos on Tour, having spent the best part of a decade rubbing shoulders with the world’s greatest golfers. The Swede would be the first to tell you just how much a fairway wood can help improve your scores.

Consider your options off the tee

Far too many golfers don’t realise the value of a fairway wood. If you ever feel unsure in pulling out your driver (and we all do, sometimes), a fairway wood could be the perfect answer.
